Waiting & Wondering about Rosie

The last update on Rosie was 7/8. She was supposed to have bloodwork + an additional work before shipping back to the Pletcher barn. I'm concerned. Has she had another setback? I understand you're busy but some word on Rosie would be much appreciated. I would hope that with Roses For Debra's Caress win + Justify's recent turf winners, Rosie would be moving up on your radar. I don't believe Pletcher has any outstanding turf fillies so I'm hoping Rosie may be the one! Thank you and appreciate you.

MyRacehorse Hi Janet, Thanks for the feedback, Rosie is doing well! We think you'll be pleased to see the racing team has been providing more consistent updates for her owners. In fact, just a few days ago Rosie’s Alibi was back on the work tab at Churchill Downs and continues to progress nicely!

MyRacehorse Hi Angelica, We understand your frustration, we know owning a racehorse is best experienced when you have a chance to visit your racehorse and we do our best to set up as many visits to see your thoroughbred as possible. Last year alone we had over 300 tours for our partners to visit their horses. They are all posted on the app under the events section. We currently have 5 free owner perk events posted for the remainder of September. Additionally, we have lots of Florida events planned that will be coming to the website soon, so keep an eye out for those!

Ask the partners

This is in response to a response made by MRH you don't understand he just won at the allowance level a year ago and is not forgiven a chance in 2023 at the same level if you don't believe me ask the partners they say all of it the same thing we're the ones who pay you guys right?

MyRacehorse Hi Jeff, Thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear that you feel this way. There are a number of considerations when determining what level to place horses in and how long they should compete at certain levels. First and foremost is frequent communication with our trainers and hearing their feedback on how the horse is training and what level/distance/surface/etc. they believe will best suit a particular horse. Along with our experienced Stable Management team we have racing managers around the country who are also present on track and in the barns to assess our runners. Our team and trainers then discuss all factors that go into the horse's management and decide on the best spots to run for optimal success. We do understand that some partners do not like competing in claiming races and we agree it's tough to not build a bond with each horse and it can be tough to see them claimed away. However, we've found over the years that placing horses in the right spots where the horse is more competitive provides more excitement for the partners (with higher placed finishes and wins) and keeps the horses happier when they've found their "friends" to compete with rather then have their confidence continually hit where they can't be competitive. Over 2/3rd's of races run in North America are claiming races so odds are most horses find themselves competing in claiming races regardless of initial expectations or purchase price. There are many good owners and trainers that depend on claiming races to operate their stables and those that have been claimed from us have mostly gone onto long and solid careers for their new connections. We also keep tabs on past runners to monitor their performance and where they are being campaigned. Hope this helps understand how we go about making some of the decisions we make and thank you for being part of the MRH program.

It is very exciting to see that Sixtythreecaliber will be knocking heads with the likes of Nest, Clairier and Secret Oath in the $500,000 Grade 1 Personal Ensign at Saratoga. She has earned the chance, and I'm so pleased that she is entered. Saratoga is my favorite track and Personal Ensign was a wonderful horse. That makes Friday even more special for me. Thanks to all involved.

MyRacehorse Hi Chuck, Thank you for the positive feedback and for sharing with us- we're so excited too! We love your passion for racing and for horses, and are thrilled that you are an owner through MyRacehorse, your support is appreciated! Best of luck!

Big mistakes

Too many injuries, delays and wins directly following claims. The big name trainers left our horses to their assistant trainers and didn't seem to follow up on basics, And the members bid the horses down to odds not worth betting. I don't need gear, I don't need a buffet, I need a horse that stays sound and wants to run.

MyRacehorse Hi Lily, We are sorry to hear you feel this way. As you can likely tell, our process is pretty regimented in looking after the safety and well-being of the horse throughout the entire process (prior to buying them, during their time in the stable, and aftercare). Unfortunately, injuries and setbacks are a routine part of the thoroughbred racing industry, no matter what stage of their career a horse is in. Statistics show that horses on average run approximately once every 30-40 days and average six starts per year. This translates into significant downtime for owners who want to see more frequent action. Like human athletes, racehorses often have ailments that require medical attention, rest, or a combination of various items. That being said, younger horses often have much more frequent setbacks than their older counterparts as they are still rapidly growing and developing. In fact, most horses that end up making a start at the races actually don't race at 2. However, studies over the years have shown training their bodies at 2 for the rigors of racing to build proper foundation and bone is essential to long-term soundness and health. Injury and setback rates are widespread across the industry. Owners outside of MyRacehorse experience the same issues on a frequent basis. For us, each horse's situation and health are thoroughly discussed as an injury/setback is discovered during the rehab process, and then when deciding whether or not to send a horse back into training for starts at the races. Horses are not sent back into training and kept racing if serious concerns about soundness remain.

Not an investment!

This review is my opinion only, based solely on my experience. Be aware that if you buy micro-shares of horses through this platform, you may more than likely lose money. That has been my experience. I have lost, even owning a small piece of a Kentucky Derby winner. It does not appear that this is set up to benefit the individual “investor”. It is more of a gimmick. Again, this is solely my experience and opinion. The app works well, everything is transparent. Just remember that emotions should never influence financial decisions.

MyRacehorse Hi Chris, Due to Authentic being sold to a stallion farm while still an active racehorse, there is an agreed-to base sales price (Spendthrift Farm acquired the breeding rights to Authentic in June 2020). The sales price would increase from the base when certain criteria were met. These criteria are typically met in the forms of additional Grade 1 wins and Eclipse Award honors. The share price for this offering did not include monetary reserves to pay kickers included in Authentic’s stallion deal. As a result, since Authentic met all of the criteria triggering all of the kickers disclosed in this offering, shareholders are responsible for their portion of additional payments. Like all of our other offerings, shareholders are not being billed out of pocket for these costs but rather these costs are being deducted from revenue earned by Authentic's stallion career. Shareholders have true equity in a stallion and deals like this are what it takes to acquire the best prospects, and it worked! Shareholders now have the best son of Into Mischief and are entitled to breeding dividends for his entire stud career! You will receive yearly dividend checks for the entirety of Authentic's stallion career, which if it continues to be successful and healthy could go on for two decades. Hope this clears things up!

Save your money

I do not recommend that you “invest” in MRH, it’s a money loser. It’s fun, but there is not enough success to justify the monetary losses

MyRacehorse Hi Michael, Horses are living, breathing, fragile animals and no guarantees can ever be made about the outcome of an investment in a racehorse. Most investments lose money, some break even, a few are profitable, and a select few are extremely profitable. We are here to provide a marketplace to make investing safe, secure and fun, but we are not removing the risk from racehorse ownership. Which is why we always strive to provide as many experience opportunities that revolve around race days, backside tours, barn visits, and virtual events. Please let us know if there's anything we can do to enhance your ownership experience!

I have been around horses my whole adult life. Mostly Hunters/Jumpers, Eventing, and Foxhunting. I have always kept up with the top of the racing news and followed the triple crown etc. MyRacehorse is such an exciting opportunity for me I just love all your reporting and being able to follow the horses with videos and commentary. It has opened the world of TB racing to me that was never possible before. This has reignited a passion in me that I really did not know was there since I was not able to participate at a close level. Thank you MyRacehorse...I am not a young woman; my life has been horses and hounds, and now I have an avenue of exciting participation in the TB Racing industry.

KEEP"S GETTING BETTER AND BETTER

This review is for anyone on the fence about joining the MyRacehorse partnership(s). I have been in this racing experience and will definitely be buying more shares as the top notch offerings become available, in addition to, the close to 40 I own (or did own) presently. With numerous owners I thought my concerns would be ignored but that perception was far from reality. Every customer service question was answered professionally and, when needed, improvements and /or changes made. The video's, updates ,transparent lottery system, price of share's, race day experience and special events just make the MyRacehores experience wonderful. As the title says, and I save witnessed over many years of ownership it just "KEEP'S GETTING BETTER AND BETTER"......................

MyRacehorse Jay, Thanks for the kind words. We truly operate our business as a two-way street and respect and value our customers feedback and experiences. Our staff continually strives at optimizing and enhancing the owner experience and we look forward to seeing you at the races soon!

I currently own shares in 8 of the MRH stable. I have been a racing fan since my youth starting with the races at the local fairgrounds in Washington state. I have been a horseman for years and at one time owned and trained horses for trailriding. MRH has been fun. Small investment for a lot of thrills. When Classic Cut broke his maiden I knew I would continue to be an MRH owner.

MyRacehorse Hi Michael, Glad to hear you're enjoying the experience. Being a horseman yourself, you know there's a lot of ups and downs but those wins like the gritty one displayed by Classic Cut keep you coming back for more. Please let us know if there's anything else we can do to increase your ownership experience.

Enjoying the experience

I joined myRacehorse after talking with a good friend who shares my love for horse racing. He told me upfront to look at micro share ownership as a learning/education experience and not to expect a profitable return. He was right, I have learned so much more about horse training and what goes into developing a horse to race. I have always played the horses and love going to the track. While not big gambler I enjoy watch these beautiful animals run. I own several horses and have had several race, one claimed and several injured, but that's the business. Today I get to see one of my horses run live at Lone Star in Arlington, TX. I'm so excited and am hoping for a win. Enjoy the experience and learn what the business is all about.

MyRacehorse Hi Robert, Very wise words. Ownership is an up and down rollercoaster of emotions sometimes! There are setbacks and disappointments for sure, but also lots of very rewarding and exciting moments that we find hard to beat and keep us coming back for more. We hope you continue to enjoy the experience and please let us know if and how we can enhance it for you.

Stay Fabulous

Congratulations to Stay Fabulous as she won her first race, unfortunately not in our barn.

MyRacehorse Hi Al, We understand the attachment to each horse in the stable. Part of our job as the manager of each horse is to place them in the best spots where they can be competitive, enjoy racing, and provide a balanced experience for our owners. Unfortunately, in America 2/3rds of races run are in the claiming ranks, so there's a high probability most horses end up in the claiming ranks at some point in their careers. Stay Fabulous started out in the Maiden Special Weight ranks but unfortunately did not demonstrate the speed necessary to compete at higher levels of racing. Accordingly, she was entered in the Maiden Claiming ranks and also transitioned to a much smaller and less competitive racetrack in Iowa where she secured her first win in her 8th career start. Her speed figures are still very modest and have not improved since she was in our stable. In racing you'll hear the words "finding their friends" a lot regarding the class and circuits horses are most competitive at. It appears that Stay Fabulous has found hers and we wish her and her new connections the best.

Thanks for the Town Hall regarding plans and possibilities for Straight No Chaser! I probably like it best because I was 100% in agreement with Joe Moran's assessments. Prior to the Town Hall I looked at races and made travel plans for Del Mar and the Bing Crosby just hoping SNC would run in it. We saw him at Santa Anita this spring and I'm excited to cheer him on again. I think Dan Blacker has a good grasp of his talent and temperament. Thanks MRH for getting me excited about something again.

Exciting hobby

I own microshares in 16 horses. I think my mom has 19/20. My mom is 94 and I'm 72 (disabled veteran) so this is a wonderful way to "own" a racehorse. It's exciting for race day and hope it is one we can stream live. Are we getting rich...if course not. Are we having a blast together at not much of a cost...absolutely!! Where else can you hand over $100 and have entertainment until your horse retires. There is one thing that I would really like to see. I have the MRH app and can see race entries. But as soon as the race is over, the horse drops out of that list. Even if I don't own shares, I'm always interested in how the other MRH horses did in their race in case I don't get to see it. I would love to see a section where you could check to see who raced and their stats for the week. Keep up the good work and keep tempting us with the wonderful bloodlines you manage to get for us. And keep working on getting a place for a beneficiary

MyRacehorse Nora, we are thrilled that you and your mom are enjoying racehorse ownership with MyRacehorse! What an incredible hobby to share. We'd also like to thank you for the feedback, we will pass it along to our product team. We do post weekly recaps that review how horses ran over the weekend so hopefully that helps. Thanks so much for being part of the MRH family, with your family!

Thoroughbred Love

Saratoga Race Track is where my Dad took me many mornings before school to clock the horses. It was the time of the great trainer Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons and Jockey Eddie Arcaro. It was the beginning of my loving the thoroughbreds. As I got older my Dad and I talked about going to the Kentucky Derby but unfortunately he died very young and our dream was not realized. I have been very fortunate to be able to go to one Kentucky Derby and many stakes and grade 1 races. Fast forward to January 2023. My son introduced me to My Racehorse. I was lucky enough to purchase a small share of 3 horses. I have enjoyed my experience with My Racehorse immensely. It just is wonderful how you keep us informed about our horses with regular updates and videos I also like getting the information about other My Racehorse horses that are running at different tracks. So far my experience you has been very rewarding and educational. Your staff is terrific, prompt in answering calls and questions esp Maddy. You also give people who would love to be in racing but could never afford to buy the hay an opportunity to have an ownership in a horse. So, a pensioner like me was able to buy a share of Lady Blitz. nine days ago Lady Blitz stepped into the van and was on her way to Monmouth! She is training beautifully and I hope to see her race soon. PRICELESS!! Thank you My Racehorse

MyRacehorse Joan, we are so happy that you are living out you and your father's dream, and may his memory live on! Exciting times are ahead of you with Lady Blitz, she's a neat filly, and we are very much looking forward to how she progresses this summer. Best of luck and we look forward to hosting you hopefully at one of her races in the near future!

I've been reading the reviews. We moved to Louisville last year to be near granddaughters. I've always had a casual interest in racing but never serious. My idea of a good race is the Cowboy way, to the big oak tree and back! I grew up riding and still miss my horse "Smokey" 50 years later. After watching the broadcasts for the last few days and all the back of track experiences, we have gotten more interested. And, of course with Mage winning the Derby and the publicity that brought to micro-shares, my son and I started researching and discovered MyRacehorse. Knowing what it cost just to maintain a pleasure horse 50 ago, I realize even a small profit is near impossible for most "investors" Living on little more than social security, we will never be more than small shareholders, but as others have said, just the excitement of "that's my horse" brings a lot of fun is a good topic of conversation. Now that we live in a suburban town near Louisville, and with a pastor freind that is a Chaplin to the Back of Track ministry, I plan to be more involved in the horse community. Looking forward to being a part of the MyRacehorse community.

MyRacehorse Durward, welcome to the MyRacehorse family! We are so excited to have you, and your history with horses and racing is wonderful. We pride ourselves on bringing accessible racehorse ownership to the masses, and making sure that owners are abreast of all the updates on their horses, the opportunities to see them, and given the experience of a lifetime. I wish I knew what I know now when I started buying these shares. Unfortunately, I got too involved and now I own several horses that may not run. MRH has received it's last dollar from me-Thank you KJB

MyRacehorse Hi Kenneth, thank you for your review. As is the nature of horse racing, some horses will not make it to the races. We do our best to manage each horse as an individual to provide them with the highest opportunity to not only make it to the races, but to thrive in their racing career. Some horses do not make it to the races in their 2-year-old season and need time to grow and mature, so patience is a key component to the game. Even a champion like Zenyatta did not start racing until November of her 3-year-old season as she needed time to mature. We wish you the best with your stable!

I know I only have a microshare in my horses but it's exciting to know that I have a 2 share of an actual race horses! I'm just disappointed in Pioneer Prince ran One race didn't finish in top four and then got injured in this now in recovery. And my second horse Balletic love her❤️ ! Came in second her first and second race and one her third then got injured having surgery. That's my disappointment but love my experience so far

MyRacehorse Hi Ryan, As you allude to, horse ownership can be quite the roller coaster experience. Like with Balletic, one moment you're filled with some of the best feelings one can experience when your horse wins a race and the next minute you're frustrated/sad when they experience a setback. Unfortunately, with horses in America only averaging about 6 starts per year, setbacks and downtime are a normal part of the business for any owner. As a company we always put the horse first and provide them the best care and time needed to achieve their best success on the track. Can it be frustrating at times? You bet, we understand. We want to see them run as much as you do! We think that over time you'll see some of the best experiences and stories in owning racehorses can be challenging times such as these when patience is rewarded long term. Best of luck in your journey!

I have bred and owned race horses for 43 years. One of the great things about horse racing is that there is always something to look forward to. For a person like myself with chronic health challenges, it is a way of focusing on the future and taking a break from the present difficulties one experiences. I believe MyRacehorse offers that opportunity as with the high cost of training and Vetanarian expenses, it is no longer affordable for those of us who love racing but are not in a financial position at this stage in life. I now have a share in Simply Enchanting, which is very exciting. Love her breeding, including the B+nick. And , I also purchased a share in the Royal Duet recently. I am looking forward to an exciting 2023 racing year!!

MyRacehorse Hi Jeffrey, You're absolutely right. Our program with its one time out of pocket payment is a great benefit to owners in this very expensive and high-risk industry. Thank you for your support of MRH and we wish you the best of luck with your ownership in Simply Enchanting!

Race Day Fees

First off I want to say that my wife and I have enjoyed our MRH experience. I’ve read some of the other negative reviews from owners wondering why they aren’t getting much money back from a horse that finishes in the money. I understand the standard takeout of 10% of the purse for the jockey, trainer and MRH. What isn’’t clear is the other takeout which has been identified from some of your notifications as race day fees (standard jockey fee, pony to post, race day insurance, etc). Please explain those fees in detail and explain why those fees are more for a winner than for a horse that runs second or third. It seems to me that those fees should be the same whether the horse runs first or last. Thank you

MyRacehorse Hi Dana, Thanks so much for your review and we're glad you're enjoying your experience with us. We're happy to explain the process with you. First, owners receive financial breakdowns (earnings and expenses) of each race after statements from the track are received, so they can follow specifics from each race. The amount of expenses are variable because they are a percentage of purse money earned. For example and simplicity, lets say if a horse wins and earns $100,000 then typically there would be 10 percent to each the trainer, jockey, and manager; so in total $30,000 would be deducted from the earnings and $70,000 distributed to owners. If the horse was second and earned $50,000 then $15,000 would be deducted (30% x $50,000) and $35,000 distributed to owners. Now, there are some exceptions where purse money is not distributed out. One of the major benefits of the MyRacehorse program is its one time out of pocket payment for owners. Our offerings generally include two-years worth of prepaid training and care costs which are used to pay for a horse's ongoing expenses. These funds are managed in what we refer to as a reserve account. As the funds naturally deplete over time we sometimes need to utilize race earnings to top-off the account (our goal is to always have 9 months of projected expenses in that account). We do this so owners never have to pay out of pocket again for their pro-rata portion of ongoing expenses throughout the horses career. Most other ownership groups invoice their partners on an ongoing quarterly basis to pay for these costs. Once the horse has been sold and/or retired from racing we perform a final accounting, provide a listing of income and expenses, and issue any final distributions from that account. We hope this helps and would be happy to answer any additional questions you might have.

The MRH Experience

If you enjoy thoroughbred horse racing, MRH gives you a glimpse of the owner’s experience with little financial investment. My only wish is that they would be patient and not race our horses until they are three year olds. There would be fewer injuries and losses.

MyRacehorse Hi Joan, We appreciate the kind words and for reaching out. Your passion and well-being for your stable are prevalent; we genuinely admire that about owners. As you can tell, our process is regimented in looking after the safety and well-being of the horse throughout the entire process (before buying them, during their time in the stable, and aftercare). Unfortunately, injuries and setbacks are a routine part of the thoroughbred racing industry, no matter what stage of a horse's career, and something all owners experience frequently. Younger horses often have more frequent setbacks than their older counterparts as they are still rapidly growing and developing. Most horses that end up making a start at the races don't race at 2. However, studies over the years have shown training their bodies at 2 for the rigors of racing to build proper foundation and bone is essential to long-term soundness and health. For us, each horse's situation and health are thoroughly discussed as an injury/setback is discovered, and then deciding whether or not to send a horse back into training for starts at the races. Horses are not sent back into training and kept racing if serious concerns about soundness remain. There was an article written a few years back we'll send to you via email by world renowned Dr. Larry Bramlage on the benefits of training horses at 2 years of age. I hope you find this information helpful, and again, thanks for being a supporter of MyRacehorse.

Good Experience

MyRacehorse is a great place to get started with thoroughbred ownership. It is also very easy and convenient to become a race horse owner with MyRacehorse. When I first got started with thoroughbred ownership, MyRacehorse was a great place to learn some of the basics. You get to occasionally visit your horse(s) at a farm and if you’re lucky enough, get winner circle/paddock passes when the horse races. I HIGHLY recommend MyRacehorse to any beginner. You can learn a lot about horse racing, thoroughbred ownership, and meet some cool people at various events. Yes, you pay around double for what a per share would cost off a first hand purchase, as MyRacehorse is a business. However, you get a lot of value out of learning about horse ownership and the experience. This is not something you get into and try to make a bunch of money. In my opinion, spending time around your horse and watching it race (especially if it wins) more than covers the $100 or so you pay for a micro share. If you’re in it for the money only, you’re looking in the wrong place. Unless your horse is a superstar, don’t expect a lot (monetarily). If you want to have a horse all to yourself, go spend $5k on a nickel claimer and make sure you have at least double of that to take care of the horses needs. MyRacehorse takes care of all that for you. Think about the logistics of horse ownership with racing, training, medical, etc etc. For the folks who complain about MyRacehorse, where else can you make a ONE TIME $100 payment and mingle with other horse owners, your/visit multiple farms, go into the paddock or winners circle, meet world class trainers, etc??? Don’t take too long to think about it because it doesn’t exist!!! MyRacehorse is a great thing for the thoroughbred industry!

MyRacehorse Hi Mark, Thank you so much for your kind words and we're happy to hear you're enjoying the MRH ownership experience. We welcome any additional feedback you might have to improve the experience. We're always looking for ways to improve!

Scam

This seems like a scam. Spent over $2000 in your horses and have had one horse (Tizamagian) make over $600000 and I still didn’t make my money back. Will not recommend to anyone

MyRacehorse Hi Lamont, We’re sorry to hear that you haven’t enjoyed your experience with us. You’ve had some really nice horses with us including Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup winner Authentic, multiple Graded Stakes winner Tizamagican, and Lane Way. Regarding Tizamagician you’ve received over $230 per share back to your MRH wallet and there will be an additional payout to close out his account. We certainly understand that maybe it seems like it should be more for a horse that was as accomplished as Tizamagician, however there are some considerations you have to account for. First, the horse was owned in partnership with Spendthrift Farm who owned 40 percent of the horse, entitling them to that portion of his earnings. Additionally, the costs to both train and race a horse are very expensive. We provide an accounting of each race day financials in the owner feed for your reference. Some examples of expenses include: • Regular training and care costs for your horse ($50,000-$60,000 per year) • Yearly mortality Insurance for the horse (about 4% of the horse’s valuation) • Race day expenses like trainer and jockey commissions, approximately 5-10 percent of race earnings (usually closer to the latter). • Stakes entry and starter fees (can be a few thousand dollars per race) • Transportation costs So you can see that there’s a lot that is outside of the owner’s control that erodes gross earnings. However, when owners do successfully turn a profit it’s done in the sales ring or by selling an elite racing prospect to a stallion farm. For example, over the last few years we’ve sold two fillies for over $1 million at the Fasig Tipton night of the stars sale including Going to Vegas who made a 54 percent ROI for her partners. Additionally, Authentic is standing his third year at stud at Spendthrift Farm and in the coming years we’re very optimistic that he’ll provide nice returns to his partners as his career continues to unfold in the breeding shed.

I love My Racehorse

You have given me such a wonderful and exciting pastime to look forward to during the three years of covid. I have loved horses since the days of Roy Rogers and his palomino Trigger on through horse racing, especially the KY Derby, the Virginian and riding at my uncle’s horse farm near Fulton, MO. I have always wanted my own horse but My Racehorse is the BBQ next best thing!

MyRacehorse Hi Judy, So great to hear you're enjoying the MRH ownership experience! Please let us know if there's anything else you'd like to see. We're always discussing and working on new ways to enhance the owner experience. Take care.
